Carnegie Elective Classification for Leadership for Public Purpose: 2027 Cycle Now Open

Interested campuses can now access and submit applications for the Carnegie Elective Classification for Leadership for Public Purpose (LPP), a prestigious designation recognizing institutions that foster leadership committed to advancing the public good.

With an updated framework informed by insights from past applicants, reviewers, and field experts, the 2027 cycle introduces a more accessible and streamlined process. The revised framework ensures that institutions of all types can effectively showcase their commitment to leadership that serves society.

Prospective applicants can review the framework, timeline, and comprehensive resources—including workshops, webinars, and publications—on the Carnegie Elective Classifications website. These resources provide critical support for institutions preparing their submissions and seeking to deepen their impact in leadership education. Institutions have until June 12, 2026, to complete and submit their applications. Applications for the 2027 cycle must be initiated by Jan. 9, 2026.

Beyond the recognition, the classification process offers institutions an opportunity for self-assessment, reflection, and growth. It also connects them to a growing network of colleges and universities dedicated to leadership for public purpose, fostering collaboration and innovation across the sector.
